(B/L/D)
Breakfast at hotel.
9 am Pick up at hotel and for Fort Cornwallis, the site where Capt. Francis Light first landed and raised the Union Jack, for a photo stop. Experience a ride on the ‘king of the road” – the trishaw, a symbol of Penang’s unhurried lifestyle. The ride ends at the majestic and ornate Khoo Clan Ancestral House where you can admire the intricate carvings and woodwork of this heritage building.  Continue the tour to Chew Jetty, an early Chinese settlement where the people live in wooden houses perched on stilts over water. Walk the narrow wooden platforms and immerse in the trading history of the island. Drive pass the “street of harmony” where you will see the road lined with various places of worship important to Penang’s multi-cultural community. The Pinang Peranakan Mansion, once the ancestral home of Chung Keng Kwee, the Kapitan China of Perak and a Hakka mine-owner is the next stop. Here, we glimpse into the lifestyles of the Baba & Nyonya – the Straits Settlement’s Chinese in this 19th century-old town house of eclectic design and architecture.
Set lunch & brief tour at Suffolk House*, the former home of Captain Francis Light who established the island under British rule and also once home to the early governors during the British Colonialism. Today Suffolk House is an important heritage landmark in Penang. An Anglo-Indian designed garden house, it is Malaysia’s only surviving Georgian mansion and is one of the finest in Asia.
Continue tour to the suburbs of the city, with a visit to the brightly painted Thai Temple of Wat Chayamangkalaram, which houses the 108-foot long figure of the Reclining Buddha and the adjacent Burmese Buddhist Temple. Finally, escape from the hustle and bustle of the city by heading out to the cool lush green surroundings of the 120 year old Botanic Gardens.
